Graduation Thesis: Waiting Areas in Hospitals

The main purpose of the paper is to mention the appropriate environmental and design conditions of the waiting areas in the children’s hospitals, and evaluate one of those hospitals where located in Izmir, Turkey by the inspiration of the rising awareness about children’s health. Introduction part presents the objective and reason of the study. Literature involves that research, and presents the general information about related healing environments. There is little research available about children’s hospitals and their interiors, in Turkey. In addition, some design criteria and approach were mentioned in this section. Methodology part covers the details of the study. It presents the survey with 17 questions that was prepared accordingly to five-stepped Likert scale, and was given to 20 participants in the Dr. Behcet Uz Child Disease and Pediatric Surgery Training and Research Hospital. In addition, this part includes observation and survey analysis and results of the survey. From the outcome of the survey, it is possible to conclude that the chosen hospital does not cover most of the functional and behavioral needs of users. And the design is not appropriate for both a hospital and a children’s hospital. In the conclusion part, this result was evaluated both as a case research and in general.
